Meet the Founders
Why We Co-Founded the SoulPhone™ Foundation
Mark Pitstick, MA, DC
I got goose-bumps when I first heard about the SoulPhone®.
After working in the 1970’s with many suffering and dying adults and children, I was motivated to find sensible, evidence-based answers to the questions that many people ask: “Who am I? Why am I here? What happens after I die? Will I see my departed loved ones again? Is there a God? Why is there so much suffering?”
You know the list.
My training included a premedical degree, graduate theology/pastoral counseling studies, masters in clinical psychology, and doctorate in chiropractic health care. I worked in hospitals, pastoral counseling settings, mental health centers and private practice. Always, I searched for meaningful answers to the questions above.
Fast forward to 2014. I was hosting a radio show called Ask the Soul Doctors. In each hour long program, I asked top consciousness experts those questions.
One of my guests was Gary Schwartz, PhD. His academic training was at Cornell and Harvard. He had been a professor at Harvard and Yale before starting research at the University of Arizona. Dr. Schwartz had published more than four hundred and fifty scientific papers, including six in the prestigious journal Science. He had also co-edited eleven academic books and was the author of six more.
All very impressive.
I had read several of his books and loved his blend of science and spirituality. He had enough courage and caring to go out on a limb and research the really big questions in life. Our interview was wonderful. His answers showed that he had wrestled, personally and professionally, with life’s toughest questions. And, what’s more, his answers were sometimes evidence-based. He was one of the most intelligent and, at the same time, soulful people I had every talked with.
I felt like I had met a kindred spirit. For all of my adult life, I had been searching for sensible answers to life’s biggest questions. After working with hundreds of dying and many thousands of suffering patients, I wanted to know if there really was a meaning to life. I wanted to know if death was an end or just an entry into another phase of forever.
My interview with Dr. Schwartz reinforced much of what I had learned over the prior forty years. It also brought up fascinating new possibilities such as the SoulPhone, cutting-edge technology to allow reliable spirit-communication. Yep, talking with “dead” people.
Over the next two years, our paths increasingly crossed as we both worked with Eternea and Helping Parents Heal. We met at an afterlife conference. Over time, we discovered just how similar our visions and missions were.
Gary asked if I would consider working with him. He was deluged with research, statistical analysis, and the many difficult and time-consuming steps required to create a technological breakthrough. He needed someone to educate, fundraise, and build community groups. We also wanted to expand his team so that someone would continue Dr. Schwartz’s work if anything happened to him.
We shared a common dream about how many suffering people would be comforted and healed by validating that death is an optical illusion. We were inspired and enthused about the possibilities of communicating with “deceased” luminaries in science, religion, the arts, and other fields. We imagined how our world might radically change for the better as more people realized that all life is sacred and interconnected.
Working with Dr. Schwartz and his team is the most meaningful and exciting lifework I can envision. All my professional training and service – as well as my good and bad, happy and sad personal experiences – have prepared me for this moment.
You can learn more about who I am and my various outreaches on my website www.soulproof.com.
Much collective evidence now clearly shows that this earth-experience is a totally safe, meaningful, and magnificent adventure amidst forever. Internalizing this great news allows you to more fully enjoy every aspect of life here and now. Deeply knowing that you are an eternal being of spirit / consciousness / energy helps you live with more love, peace, and joy while following the Golden Rule.
How much better can the SoulPhone technology change many people and our world? Let’s find out!
Life and love are forever. That's been clearly proven. Shall we now live accordingly?
P.S. I’m donating my time and money toward this mission. I hope you will do the same in any way you can.
P.S.S. I recently realized that I have a selfish motive for making this vision a practical reality. When I die / change worlds someday, I want to be able to communicate with my children, grandchildren, and other beloved family and friends—just as I can now with those who live around the U.S. and the world.
Would you like to do the same? If so, contact me and let’s discuss how you can help.
Bob Staretz, BSEE, MSEE
Hello and thank you for visiting the SoulPhone Foundation website. Since early adulthood, I have been fascinated with understanding the nature of consciousness, especially how something that complex could arise out of non-conscious matter.
I was trained in physics and electrical engineering with a BSEE from Tufts University and MS from Ohio State University. My education and career at various research institutions really gave me an appreciation for the value of the scientific method of investigation. Some of the institutions I worked at were involved in leading edge research and advanced technology development. They included: Bell Laboratories where I worked as a systems engineer and Principal Investigator; GTE Laboratories as Director of Technical Computation; GTE Data Services as Director of R & D; Racal Electronics as Director of Advanced Development; and various positions at other organizations in the telecommunications industry.
My education, experience in industry, and keeping up with the scientific literature eventually convinced me that there was much more to consciousness than could be explained by modern science. For most of my adult life, the contemporary view has been that ordinary brain processes are somehow responsible for our consciousness. But that is an assumption that, in my opinion, does not hold up under close scrutiny, nor has it ever been proven scientifically.
About 28 years ago, I met Dr. Edgar Mitchell, an MIT trained scientist, naval aviator, Apollo 14 astronaut, and the 6th man to walk on the moon. He had a profound experience of seeing Earth from the moon’s vantage point. Upon his return, he soon founded the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS), primarily to study the nature of consciousness. He was interested in answering such questions as how consciousness arose, its interaction with the physical world, and how we use our consciousness to interpret reality.
During our long friendship, we collaborated on many research projects, journal articles, papers, and presentations on these and related subjects. Throughout most of our collaboration, I remained open-minded but was somewhat skeptical about some of the claims being made about the non-local nature of consciousness. This included ideas that suggested consciousness: existed as a field that extended beyond the body; received information in ways that defied conventional understandings; manipulated physical objects at a distance; and even existed without the brain / body.
As we amassed more and more evidence about a wide array of phenomena, it became just too difficult for me to maintain any belief in the materialist position that consciousness was nothing more than a by-product of brain processes. I could not longer believe that our consciousness ceased to exist when the brain / body died or that it had some of the attributes described above.
Through my association with Dr. Mitchell, I met Dr. Gary Schwartz. At first, I was skeptical about his work with mediums and communications with “Spirit.” However, after closer examination of his scientific experiments and published findings, I am now convinced that consciousness is not only a non-local phenomena, but that it indefinitely survives bodily death. This, of course, is something that sages, shamans, avatars, mystics, and spiritual traditions have been telling us for millennia.
The reasons I co-founded the SoulPhone Foundation to support Dr. Schwartz’s research are threefold:
1. My personal interest in understanding consciousness and knowing what will become of my consciousness (as well as those of my loved ones) when my body reaches the finality of physical death.
2. The profound implications that Dr. Schwartz’s research will have for humanity and all life on our precious little planet. Imagine the impact as evidence that consciousness / spirit is a fundamental aspect of reality begins to spread throughout our social and cultural institutions.
3. Given #2, it is essential that this work is replicated by other credible scientists and continues on regardless of the demise of any of the principals involved in this research.
Given the current state of affairs on our planet, it seems to me that -- more than ever -- we need a better understanding on how our actions affect the lives of all living creatures. I truly believe we have an opportunity to improve the quality of life for many people and reduce their suffering. Consequently, I am freely donating my time, expertise, and resources to support this important work. It is my sincere hope that you will support this research as you gain a greater appreciation for its implications.
